Middletown History Center

On June 9, 2024 the trustees of the Historical Society of the Town of Middletown, surrounded by friends and supporters, cut the ribbon on the new Middletown History Center! The opening marked a new chapter in HSM’s development as an integral part of the community’s cultural fabric.

Our collection of archival materials — photographs, diaries, store ledgers, school records and yearbooks, maps, personal letters, records of civic organizations, memorabilia, advertising items, and so much more — are now securely stored within the Nicholas J. Juried Archives.

These materials, and a considerable collection of digitized documents and information, will be made available to researchers and the public in the coming months. A comfortable reading room has a library of local and regional history books and binders for visitors to peruse.

The new Center also includes a welcoming lobby with exhibits and a hand-painted map of Middletown; an office; and an accessible restroom.

A refreshed program hall features artifact displays on walls and in display cases.

The grounds are newly landscaped and a sitting area by the pond offers a quiet spot to rest, reflect and watch birds and wildlife.

Major support for this expansion project was generously provided by

  • The Nicholas J. Juried Foundation
  • The A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation
  • The Pasternak Family Foundation
  • The Schoell Giving Fund
  • The Catskill Watershed Corporation
  • The members of the Legacy Circle

and by many businesses, organizations, individuals and families who believe in the power of history to inform contemporary life.

Thank you!
