Roadside Markers

Historic markers call attention to notable episodes in Middletown’s history, or to buildings that are on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Many of these markers have been erected by HSM, in some cases with contributions from property owners. Several have been installed by other organizations, as noted below*. Take a drive around town and see how many you can find!

MARKERS ERECTED BY HSM

  • Ulster & Delaware Railroad, DURR station, Arkville
  • Anti-Rent War, intersection of Todd Mtn, Galli Curci and Fleischmanns Hts. Roads, between Fleischmanns and Dry Brook
  • Village of Margaretville, Village Offices, Main Street
  • Middletown Settlement, Town Hall, Route 28
  • Hubbell Homestead, Hubbell family farm, Rte 30, Kelly Corners
  • Kelly Brothers Round Barn, Rte 30, Halcottsville
  • New Kingston, next to NK post office
  • Mountain Athletic Club Grounds, Fleischmanns Village Park. HSM in conjunction with MAC
  • VanBenschoten farm and boarding house, Margaretville Mountain Road

MARKERS ERECTED BY OTHERS:

  • Stone School House, two markers: original next to schoolhouse, erected by Stone School Association; second one near road (Rte 28-30, Dunraven) by Adam Hendricks as Eagle Scout project
  • Masonic Lodge building, Main St., Margaretville, erected by Lodge #389 F&AM
  • Sanford Homestead, Homestead Farm Resort, Co. Rte. 6, Dunraven. (Unsure who erected this)
  • Village of Fleischmanns, Main Street, erected by Fleischmanns First
  • Bnai Israel Synagogue, Wagner Ave., Fleischmanns, erected by B’nai Israel congregation
