Historical Society plans October events
History takes center stage during October when the Historical Society of the Town of Middletown offers a film, a quarry walk and an opportunity to explore the Nicholas J. Juried Archives at the Middletown History Center, 778 Cemetery Rd., Margaretville.
HSM schedules second screening of film on Anti-Rent War for October 11
“Calico Rebellion,” a documentary exploring the Anti-Rent War, called by some the “Second American Revolution,” will be screened at the Middletown History Center Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. Admission is by donation.
HSM plans field history program at stone quarry on October 17
A former Halcottsville quarryman will explain the tools and techniques of traditional stone cutters at a field history program , “No Stone Left Unturned,” Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 pm at a Margaretville area quarry.
Outdoor lovers invited to walk on the wild side at Middletown History Center September 20
HSM takes a walk on the wild side Sept. 20 at 2 pm with
“Of Woods and Wild Things” —an interactive program about hunting, fishing, hiking and other outdoor pursuits.
Come share personal tales of adventure, misadventure and memorable moments afield.

The Middletown History Center, 778 Cemetery Road, Margaretville, home of the Historical Society of the Town of Middletown, welcomes visitors Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September 5 from 10am to 1pm.
Aug. 30: Film on Anti Rent War explores history’s impact on the present
“Calico Rebellion,” a film exploring this often-overlooked period in our history, will be screened at the Middletown History Center Sunday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. It is directed by Victoria Kupchinetski, a native of Russia, whose background gives her a unique perspective on this story of land, belonging and revolt.

Esopus Indians in the Catskills: May 17 Program
Justin Wexler will give a talk on the Esopus band of the Munsee Lenape (Delaware) on Sunday, May 17 at 2 p.m.
Middletown History Center to host baseball talk by Collin Miller
“Fleischmanns Field of Dreams and The Rise of the Mountain Athletic Club” an illustrated program by Collin Miller will be held at the Middletown History Center including a show-and-tell treasure trove of artifacts and baseball ephemera from Collin’s personal collection.
HSM will clean headstones during May
The Historical Society of the Town of Middletown (HSM) will offer a headstone cleaning service at Middletown area cemeteries during the month of May.
